A conservatory or Orangery is a stylish and elegant way to add more space and flexibility to your home. Whether for practical reasons or simply for the pleasure it can bring, we realise that not only does the conservatory or Orangery improve your home but is an investment in your property.
As highly skilled and experienced craftsmen we stand out from many other companies in that we are able to build both PVC and hardwood conservatories and Orangeries. Hardwood is usually the only material considered acceptable for use on listed buildings or on houses built in conservation areas. Whether PVC or hardwood, we offer a wide spectrum of colour finishes.
A conservatory is often the easiest and most cost effective way of adding extra space to your home. A conservatory can be anything you want it to be – a relaxing living area, a dining room for entertaining, a play area for the children or even a home office. Our design advice will ensure that your conservatory complements the design of your home, blending in rather than standing out as an obvious ‘add on’.

Although still predominantly glass, Orangeries differ from conservatories in that they generally incorporate more brickwork or stonework together with flat roof areas. Orangeries were originally designed to provide the ideal climate for exotic trees and plants. Today, Orangeries have become very popular as an alternative to a conservatory. The lantern style roof provides a light and airy space perfect for use as a kitchen extension or dining room.
Whatever its purpose, a conservatory or Orangery adds an extra room, which can be used all year round. Modern technology, for example developments in glass technology can ensure that solar heat is kept out in the summer whilst retaining warmth from heating appliances in the winter months. Long gone are the days of a greenhouse effect in summer and an unusable room in the winter. Paines can offer the right combination of quality materials, ventilation and heating options such as under-floor heating to ensure a comfortable interior temperature year round. Years of experience means that we are able to offer solutions to problems or take on tricky design projects that other companies may shy away from.
Not all of the projects we are involved in are for domestic use. The Isabel Hospice in Hall Grove, Welwyn Garden City needed additional rest and recreation space for its day visitors. A large span double-hipped conservatory was added to the rear of the building. The beautiful conservatory has provided a light and airy space ideal for activities such as painting and needlework as well as a relaxing space in which to enjoy the picturesque gardens.
